Mötley Crue

Formed in L.A. back in 1981 and famed for their constant bad behaviour and brushes with the law, Mötley Crüe were the leaders of the hair metal scene of the 80s. While other MTV-endorsed pretenders tried to mimic the Crüe’s look and sound, no-one could come close to the real kings of sex, drugs, and rock n roll, who have sold more than 80 million records worldwide. Their raucous and controversial antics often left them loved and hated in equal measure, with their manager once saying that he feared the band would come back [from tour] in body bags. Few bands could claim to have consumed or indulged more than Mötley Crüe have over the course of their career, and in 2010 they’ll be bringing their Carnival of Sins to Sonisphere. You have been warned!

The band’s classic lineup will be heading to Knebworth to make sure the party is in full swing, with classics ranging from rockers ‘Girls, Girls, Girls’ and ‘Kickstart My Heart’, to lighter-waving ballads like ‘Home Sweet Home’. Since their debauched heyday of the mid-80s, Mötley Crüe have influenced a whole new generation of bands, with artists from Buckcherry to Slipknot citing them as a major influence. In addition to that, the band has been nominated for four American Music Awards (winning Best Hard Rock album in 1991 for ‘Dr Feelgood’), three Grammy awards, an MTV Video Music Award, and to top it all off they were inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2006. Love ‘em or hate ‘em, there really is no doubting Mötley Crüe’s impact from their notorious behaviour and none-more-rock image, to their classic albums. Miss them at Sonisphere, and you’ll be missing out on one of the most memorable sets of the 2010 festival season.
